This explanation stems from a misunderstanding. I asked what people thought about this and that year in the Chinese horoscope (生肖), such as 'the year of the Dog'; my intention was to elicit explanations about how different years (year of the Tiger, etc) were perceived by the Na, which properties were attributed to them. This was misunderstood as 'what did people think about stealing dogs'.
