Description(s):
This is a collection of audio and video recordings of a range of texts in Vatlongos, the Oceanic language of Southeast Ambrym in Vanuatu. Texts include traditional stories, children’s stories, oral histories and personal stories, as well as instructions, songs, and performances of sand and rope drawings. Topics include local customs, accounts of natural disasters, and the history of the founding of Mele Maat village, a relocated community near the capital of Vanuatu. Each recording is transcribed in Vatlongos, glossed in English at the morpheme level, and translated into English and Bislama (the national language of Vanuatu).
